Leipzig-based AeroLogic has taken delivery of its first B777 freighter
Leipzig-based AeroLogic has taken delivery of its first B777 freighter, the initial one of eight similar aircraft it has on order. After a non-stop flight from the Boeing assembly line in Seattle, the B777-200F arrived at AeroLogic's Leipzig/Halle hub in Germany, where it received a traditional water cannon salute from the airport's fire brigade team. Thomas Pusch, AeroLogic managing director, observed: "This is a historic day for everyone… The 777 freighter is the perfect airplane for a start-up cargo operation such as ourselves; its combination of reliability and efficiency will allow us to quickly establish the company as a leading force in the industry." The initial freighter will be joined by a second B777F in July, a third and fourth in December and a further four during 2010.
The eight B777Fs are being delivered by Boeing through the Deucalion Capital investment company. According to Boeing's vice president, sales, Europe, Russia and Central Asia, Aldo Basile: "As one of the first customers for the 777 freighter, AeroLogic has had a hand in creating a cutting-edge airplane designed specifically with the modern cargo business in mind. "The 777 freighter will provide AeroLogic with the most economic solution to grow their business and offer a level of reliable service that provides a genuine real-world advantage over the competition," he concluded. The freighter operator, a joint venture between DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo, said that it will now certify the first aircraft and obtain its operating licence from the German Federal Office for Civil Aviation. Then, the carrier said, will follow tests and training courses in maintenance, and ground and air operations. AeroLogic plans to start scheduled services on 29 June
